STANDARDS & GRADES

Fasteners Specified to Project Requirements

Standard and grade requirements should always be confirmed against the customer’s drawing, specification or applicable project standard.

ASTM

ASTM A325 / A490 structural bolts, A193 / A194 stud bolts and related fastening requirements for structural and industrial applications.

DIN

DIN 931 / 933 / 934 / 125 / 127 / 975 dimensional and product specifications commonly used for metric bolts, nuts, washers and threaded rods.

GB

GB/T 1228 / 1229 / 1230 / 97 / 5782 Chinese standard fasteners for customers requiring Chinese-standard dimensions and specifications.

ISO

ISO 4014 / 4017 / 4032 / 7089 international fastener specifications and metric fastening requirements for global projects.

Standard and Grade Comparison

The table below summarizes the practical differences buyers usually ask about before choosing a specification. Final selection should always be confirmed against the project drawing and corrosion class.

ComparisonPractical Difference
ASTM A325 vs A490A325 is the common structural bolt for steel frames, available in type 1 (carbon steel) and type 3 (weathering steel). A490 offers higher tensile strength and is used where the connection requires a smaller bolt count or higher preload. A490 has stricter hardness limits and is not hot dip galvanized in the same way as A325.
Grade 8.8 vs 10.9 vs 12.98.8 is medium carbon steel, quenched and tempered, suitable for general structural and machinery use. 10.9 uses alloy steel with higher tensile and yield strength for heavier structural and equipment joints. 12.9 is high-strength alloy steel used where space is limited and higher preload is required, but it is more sensitive to hydrogen embrittlement after plating.
DIN 931 vs DIN 933DIN 931 is a partially threaded hex bolt, with an unthreaded shank below the head. DIN 933 is fully threaded. DIN 931 is preferred where shear load acts on the shank; DIN 933 is used where clamping length must be adjusted or the bolt passes through a tapped hole.
Zinc Plated vs HDG vs DacrometZinc plating is thin and suitable for indoor or sheltered conditions. Hot dip galvanizing gives a thicker zinc layer and is standard for outdoor structural and foundation work. Dacromet is a zinc-aluminium flake coating used where zinc plating is insufficient but hot dip galvanizing would affect thread fit or appearance.
Chemical vs Mechanical AnchorsChemical anchors bond the rod to the concrete through an adhesive, giving better performance in cracked concrete and closer edge distances. Mechanical anchors rely on expansion or wedging and are faster to install, but performance depends more on substrate quality and hole cleaning.

PROCUREMENT FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from professional fastener buyers and project procurement teams.

What information is required for a fastener quotation?

A usable fastener quotation needs the product type, standard or drawing, nominal diameter, length, property grade, material, surface finish, order quantity and delivery destination. For structural bolts, please also confirm whether the project requires ASTM A325 or A490, and whether hot dip galvanizing is specified. For custom items, send the drawing or a dimensioned sketch so the thread length, bend radius and projection can be confirmed before pricing.

Can you supply ASTM, DIN, GB and ISO standard fasteners?

Yes. Common references include ASTM A325 / A490 structural bolts, ASTM A193 B7 / B7M / B16 stud bolts, DIN 931 / 933 hex bolts, DIN 975 / 976 threaded rods, DIN 125 / 127 washers, GB/T 1228 structural bolts and ISO 4014 / 4017 hex bolts. If the project specification references a standard not listed here, send the clause or drawing and the requirement can be reviewed before quotation.

Can customized fasteners be supplied?

Yes. Non-standard dimensions, thread lengths, bend configurations, material grades and surface finishes can be produced against a drawing. Typical custom items include L / J / U foundation bolts, special stud bolts for pressure equipment, and anchor rods with specified thread engagement. For evaluation, send the drawing with diameter, total length, thread length, material grade, surface treatment and order quantity.

What is the minimum order quantity?

MOQ depends on product type, size, material and whether tooling is required. Standard stock items usually start from one pallet or one ton. Custom bent foundation bolts, special studs and non-standard washers are reviewed case by case because of setup and material minimums. If the requirement is below the normal MOQ, it is still worth sending the spec — in some cases small trial quantities can be arranged alongside a larger production run.

What are the typical lead times?

Standard fasteners are usually delivered 15 to 30 days after order confirmation, depending on size, coating and quantity. Hot dip galvanized items and custom bent anchor bolts typically need longer because of coating and forming steps. Third-party inspection, if required, adds time before shipment. For project schedules, send the required on-site date so production and inspection can be planned backwards from it rather than quoted as a flat lead time.

Which surface finishes are available?

Common finishes include zinc plated, hot dip galvanized, black oxide, Dacromet and customer-specified coatings. Zinc plating is typical for indoor or sheltered applications; hot dip galvanizing is used for outdoor structural and foundation work where coating thickness and salt spray resistance matter. Dacromet is often selected where zinc plating is not sufficient but hot dip galvanizing is not practical. Finish should be confirmed against the project’s corrosion class and expected service life.

Do you provide material certificates and inspection reports?

Material traceability documentation and third-party inspection reports can be provided when required by the project specification. Typical documents include heat number and steel grade records, mechanical property reports, coating thickness measurements and salt spray test data. Inspection by SGS, BV or a customer-nominated agency can be arranged before shipment. Please state the document requirement in the inquiry so it is included in the quotation rather than added later.

Which trade terms do you support?

FOB, CIF, CFR and DDP can be discussed according to destination port and project delivery requirements. FOB is common for customers with their own forwarder; CIF and CFR are used when shipping cost should be included in the quotation. DDP can be reviewed for project deliveries where customs clearance and inland transport need to be handled by the supplier. The trade term affects both pricing and responsibility split, so it should be confirmed at inquiry stage.

Can samples be provided before bulk order?

Samples can be arranged for evaluation. Sample cost and freight are confirmed based on product type and destination. For standard items, samples are usually drawn from current stock. For custom or coated items, a small trial batch may be produced, which affects both cost and lead time. When requesting samples, confirm the specification to be tested, the quantity needed and whether the sample should match the production finish exactly.

What industries do these fasteners serve?

Typical applications include steel structures, bridges, infrastructure, industrial plants, pressure equipment, machinery, energy projects and engineering procurement. Structural bolts and foundation bolts are used in steel frame and equipment base work; stud bolts are used in flange and piping connections; anchors and threaded rods are used in concrete fixing and support systems. The same product category can require different standards depending on the industry, so the application should be stated in the inquiry.

How do I request a quotation?

Send the product name, standard or drawing, diameter, length, grade, material, surface finish, quantity and delivery destination through WhatsApp, email or the inquiry form. Drawings can be attached for project-specific requirements. If the standard is not yet decided, describe the application and load condition instead — the requirement can be reviewed and a suitable reference proposed before pricing.

Have a Fastener Requirement?

Send your product specification, standard, size, grade, quantity, drawings or project requirements. We can review the information and discuss the appropriate fastening solution.

Product specifications should be confirmed against the applicable project standard and customer requirements.
